PLAYFIGHT |
PLAYFIGHT is a queer-led, all-gender class where we explore martial arts, self-defense, and movement through the lens of embodiment, play, and joyful experimentation in an inclusive, all-bodies space.
PLAYFIGHT draws from the traditions of wrestling, jiu-jitsu, judo, sumo, and other movement arts to offer a well-rounded, beginner-friendly, playful learning environment that builds real-world skills. Each class begins with solo warm-up movements and then moves into live partner games.
Classes are $28, 75 minutes long, and take place on Thursdays at 7:45 PM at 1927 NW Kearney Street.

Join us! When we play at fighting, we build confidence, community, and resilience that we carry with us beyond the mats.

About your instructor
PLAYFIGHT is led by Brittany, a queer coach from the Southern Appalachians. Brittany holds a brown belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program. She also has a blue belt with coaching certification from 10th Planet Portland.
PLAYFIGHT is for everyone!
We welcome everyone, especially women, LGBTQIA people, survivors, neurodivergent people who have not felt safe or welcome in traditional gyms, and beginners with little or no athletic background. Martial arts spaces are often dominated by straight cis men and the intensely gendered feelings and politics that come with that. PLAYFIGHT helps reclaim grappling as a social technology rather than a site of domination.
We do occasionally teach free classes.
These are sponsored by Borealis Philanthropy. Sign up for Future Prairie's newsletter using the form at the bottom of this page if you would like to hear about when those are offered throughout the year.
