Mycology
Get to know the forest through fungi.
Brittany leads small-group mushroom and forest ecology walks on Oregon’s North Coast. Fungi are the doorway into slower looking, ecological literacy, and feeling more at home outdoors.
Choose a free grant-funded community walk, or book a paid private / custom experience. No previous mushroom knowledge is required for the introductory walk.
These are not foraging classes. The focus is education, observation, curiosity, and connection—not harvesting.
Free · Grant-funded
Free Community Walks
Public-benefit walks through Future Prairie — no cost to participants. Two options with very different physical demands. Pick the difficulty that fits your body.
Easy Ecology Walk
A shorter, slow-paced stroll for beginners and anyone who wants forest time without a strenuous hike.
Forest Ecology Hike
Still about ecology and observation—not a fitness challenge—but this one asks more of your legs and balance.
Meeting place, bathrooms, and capacity are listed on each registration page when dates are posted. Light rain is normal; unsafe weather means we reschedule.
Paid · Private & custom
Paid Walks & Custom Experiences
For individuals, families, teams, and organizations who want more flexibility in schedule, pace, place, and focus. Still educational—not foraging.
Small-group offerings
Set formats with clear prices. Join an upcoming date, or ask about scheduling one.
Sit-Spot Mycology
Deep looking without a long hike—accessible sites, slower outdoor attention through fungi and ecology.
Safe Identification 101
A sheltered lesson on lookalikes, ethics, and careful method, then a guided walk that puts observation into practice.
Microscopy Day
Hands-on work with fresh specimens, reagents, spore measurements, and details a hand lens cannot settle.
Wayfinding for the wet hills
Map, compass, terrain, weather, and the calm to stop and think when you are uncertain.
Private guided forest walk
A private educational walk focused on fungi, habitat, and forest ecology.
Custom buyouts
Fully customizable. Difficulty, length, focus, and location are shaped with you—whether you want an easy sit-spot session or a harder forest hike. Corporate team-building, retreats, schools, conservation groups, and science teams can design the day around what their people need.
Private family or community lesson
A household or small community group, paced and themed to fit you. Easy or more physical—your call.
Team / corporate buyout
Exclusive outdoor learning for a team, retreat, or organization. Build it as gentle team connection outdoors or as a more challenging forest day—whatever matches your group.
Half-day and full-day teaching available on request. Contact Future Prairie to sketch a custom program.

What to expect in the field
Coastal rain is normal. Dangerous wind or unsafe trails mean we reschedule. Bring sturdy footwear, rain layers, and water.
